About Us

Where It All Began...

Hi, my name is Emily and I started Parvenue Marketing LTD in 2018 as a freelance digital marketer specialising in SEO & PPC. I'm going to share with you my background and experience so you know you're in safe hands when it comes to trusting me to grow your online business.

Emily Margetts

I'm UK born, and have been a US legal alien for 4.5 years; I work with clients and companies all over the world; I have over 13 years' experience in digital marketing, I specialise in SEO and have had my own freelance digital marketing agency for a little over 6 years.

Connect With Me

I always had a deep curiosity when it came to marketing, and
I didn't let the fact that I dropped out of university after a year deter me. I
come from a family of entrepreneurs so while I was sat in lectures I couldn’t
help but feel like I was wasting my time, because I already knew how to run a
business. My dad had taken me to work with him my whole life; he owed well
established retail business and a construction company, all of which I was a
part of. I’d sit in the office doing the accounts with my Nana, I’d go with my
parents buying the products from the wholesaler, and later on I was the one who
started his website.

Fast forward to 2011 and I moved to Nottingham in the UK, I
landed a job in Experian in the call centre advising people on how to manage
their credit score; I quickly outgrew the phones and during my transition, I
was moved to more of a product development-based role where I was advising
managers on how to upsell parts of the packages. I think it was roughly a year
when I then moved off the phones and I was put into a data management role,
which I hated, with a passion! I read somewhere that Richard Branson had said, “If
you have the confidence then you can do anything, so blag your way in if you
have to.” I took his advice and I ‘blagged’ my way into a marketing assistant
secondment for 9 months. I was in heaven; this is exactly where I wanted to be.
But after a short lived 6 months, I got requested to return to my data job and
I was instantly looking for a new role.

After being at Experian for about 3 years, I soon landed a
Marketing Assistant role for a company called Source BioScience. I was
determined to learn as much as I could about everything marketing because the
industry was so competitive, and I had zero qualifications in it: leaving me pretty
clueless. So, I went on as many courses as I could and did as much online research
as I could; and eventually it paid off. Because at this point I only had
experience in the finance sector and now the pharmaceutical industry I needed
to figure out a way to get as much experience as possible in all the other
industries too. This is when I started Parvenue Marketing but not officially; I
was teaching myself how to build websites and do Google AdWords with start up companies,
and I wouldn’t charge them. My free service was basically my way of learning on
the job and helping them get to where they needed to be with a limited budget.

In 2018, after working 6-month contracts in so many
different industries; education; real estate; retail; automotive; pharmaceutical;
agencies; B2B; B2C; you name it, I covered it. I contracted myself out short
terms in different areas of digital marketing, for example, analytics, social
media, SEO, content marketing; so that I could basically learn every aspect of
it on the job. I then went on to do all the Google certifications there was,
and I then created my own website for Parvenue Marketing from scratch. Before I
became fully self-employed in January 2019 I was working as a Digital Marketing
Manager for a publishing company; as I was approaching the freelancer route, I
had my old boss from Source BioScience reach out to me and say, “Hey, how would
you like to freelance for us two days a week?” I was like ok, when do I start?
He said, “Next week.” So, that was the beginning of me having to carry two
laptops around, then the following week after that I got a message on LinkedIn
offering me another two day a week freelancer role managing their SEO and PPC.
Then I had three laptops, two part time jobs and a full-time job to juggle; it
was exhausting!

After I took the leap it was amazing, I had a constant
stream of clients, I have made and continue to have great relationships with
all my past and present accounts; I’m 100% self-taught, and I’m very proud of
where I’ve got to and continue to climb towards. It’s literally taken blood,
sweat and a lot of tears to get to where I am today; sitting here in Michigan, America
and seeing how far my little digital marketing company that specialises in SEO has
come, I’m excited to see how much further I can take it! Sky’s the limit, so
come and join me on our quest to the stars.
